Polyurethane waterproofing is a cold applied liquid membrane that cures into a seamless, elastic, fully bonded skin, used on exposed roofs, balconies and complex details where a sheet membrane would leave joints and awkward laps.
Because it goes on as a liquid, a PU membrane forms around pipes, plinths, upstands and corners without seams. That seamlessness is its strength: most membrane failures happen at joints and details, and a liquid system does not have them in the field of the work.
Where polyurethane wins
PU liquid membranes suit exposed roofs, balconies and terraces, roofs crowded with AC plinths, pipes and equipment, refurbishments over complex existing details, and any surface where a seamless elastic finish matters. The elasticity also lets it bridge hairline movement that would crack a rigid coating.
PU versus sheet membrane
A torch applied sheet membrane is fast and economical on a large, simple flat roof. A PU liquid membrane is the better answer where the roof is complex, the details are tight, or a seamless bonded finish is needed. Neither is universally right, which is why we match the system to the roof after a survey.
